María Rosa Valdesogo (Madrid, 1968) is graduated in Ancient History and Archaeology in university of Barcelona (Spain). While she was in the university she worked in archaeological sites in Spain and France (Prehistoric and Roman sites).
From 1992 to 1995 she took the Master in Egyptology, having teachers as Jesús López (CNRS, Paris), Nadine Guilhou (Université Paul Valéry, Montpelier) or Pascal Vernus (École Practique des Hautes Études, Paris).In 1993 she was awarded a degree with the research: “Hispanics from Roman Empire in Egypt“.
In 1995 she started the Doctorate and the doctoral thesis: “Hair in Funerary Context in Ancient Egypt from the Coffin Texts of Middle Kingdom” under the direction of Dr. Nadine Guilhou. She presented her first paper of this research in the VIII International Congress of Egyptologists in Cairo. After some months in Montpellier for finishing her research, she got the Doctorate Degree in Egyptology in 2000 in Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Since then, her main research matter has been the mourning rite in Ancient Egypt.
From 2000 to 2008 María Rosa Valdesogo was teacher of Egyptian Art and Ancient Egypt History in Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and gave many courses about Ancient Egypt in many private foundations and associations. She also combined her teaching activities with conferences, congresses and publicactions.
After many years dedicated to the university teaching, she decided to give the university up for having more time to research and write. Thanks to that she could travel constantly to Egypt and museums all over the world and compile lots of information about Ancient Egypt. That allowed her to sing her first contract with a publisher out of the university sphere and to publish her first book of Egyptian art.
During this time she has also been working on her main research subject: the mourning rite in Ancient Egypt. As a result she created the blog “Hair and Death in Ancient Egypt“, where she periodically writes posts about it. Maria Rosa Valdesogo starts her on-line adventure one year ago with the goal of bringing closer to a wider audience her knowledge and lasts results.
Nowadays, Maria Rosa Valdesogo combines her job as a professional of the marketing (off-line and on-line) with her activity as egyptologist. She is ocasional lecturer and teacher in monographical courses about Ancient Egypt and she is working on a new script.
Now María Rosa Valdesogo is managing her blog “Hair and Death in Ancient Egypt and she is working in her new book also with the same title. After that, her next project will be a new script about Egyptian Art.
